Abscopal effect of radiation therapy after nivolumab monotherapy in a patient with oral mucosal melanoma: A case report

2020
Abstract The Abscopal effect is a rare phenomenon whereby tumors outside of the irradiated field regress due to systemic antitumor effects of localized radiotherapy. In patients with oral mucosal melanoma, only one instance of the abscopal effect has been described in the English-language literature [1] . Herein, we describe an instance of the abscopal effect following whole-brain radiation therapy after nivolumab monotherapy in a patient with oral mucosal melanoma.
