Dynamics of Water Absorption by the Copolymer ofDimethyldiallylammonium Chloride and Acrylic Acid

The swelling of the cyclochain copolymer of N,N-dimethyl-N,N-diallylammonium chloride with acrylic acid in water was studied.
For the first time, an increase in the maximum possible moisture capacity of the
copolymer with increasing relative volume of the water used was shown. The
results obtained were interpreted on the basis of the two-stage equilibrium
water absorption scheme: water + hydrogel ↔ hydrated associates of linear
macromolecules ↔ insoluble microparticles with absorbed water.
