Antimicrobial screening a traditional Australian medicinal plant

2018
The global emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria has limited the efficacy of current therapeutics resulting in treatment failure and infection recurrence. Recently, antibiotic resistant bacteria have escalated, as resistance to different drug classes such as penicillins, cephalosporins and sulphonamides have continued to increase. Plants are able to produce different types of biologically active compounds, many of which have reported antibacterial effects. The increasing interest in traditional medicine provides an alternative form of therapeutic for the treatment of various microbial infections.
