A PROGRESS REPORT ON TRIMS -- A TRIP REDUCTION INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

1995
This is a progress report on TRiMS, a trip reduction information management system that was first reported on at the April 1992 IVHS of America Meeting in Washington, D.C. TRiMS is a joint project of the City of Menlo Park and Etak, Inc. in cooperation with RIDES for Bay Area Commuters, Inc. and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). It is sponsored, in part, by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). The initial purpose of the project is to assist Menlo Park's 30 largest employers (those with more than 100 employees) in complying with Menlo Park's Transportation System Management (TSM) Ordinance, with the California Clean Air Act and with the BAAQMD Trip Reduction Rule. Combined, the 30 largest companies employ over 12,500 people, of which over 9,500 commute in single-occupancy vehicles (SOVs), accounting for approximately 81 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT) per year. Eventually the project will extend to Menlo Park's smaller employers and to city residents.
