Quantifying relationships between environmental factors and power dissipation on the most prolific days in the largest tornado ‘outbreaks’

2019
We use a regression model to quantify the relationship between accumulated tornado power (ATP) and environmental factors on big convective days in large groups of tornadoes. Results indicate that ATP increases by 125% for every 10 m⋅s−1 increase in bulk shear when holding other variables constant. Changes in bulk shear, which has the largest effect on ATP, may help explain the undocumented changes in tornado activity.
