Investigation on fabrication and property of graded composites obtained via centrifugal casting in the magnetic field

2019
Abstract The development of a modern technique allowing to gain the gradient composites is of both practical and scientifically importance. The one presented in this paper is based on combines three operations: magnetic fields, centrifugal acceleration, and slip casting. The paper presents the production of gradient composites from the ceramic-metal system by an innovative method. The focus was on investigating the influence of the solid phase content in the composite slurry on their rheological properties and, consequently, their influence on the structure of the obtained composite material. It was observed that simultaneous action of centrifugal force and strong magnetic field results in obtaining a characteristic material structure with nickel particle chains. The content of the solid phase in the slurry affects its viscosity, which, along with its increase, changes the character of the distribution of the metallic chains in the volume of the material. The article proposes a model for the formation of such a structure. These studies are a great basis for further attempts to create the gradient structures desired for given properties.
