Treatment of varicella pneumonia.

1968
Varicella pneumonia, especially in adults, can have a fatal outcome. Impairment of pulmonary function can become so severe that usual methods of treatment are inadequate. Prolonged mechanical ventilation, with the use of respiratory depressants and muscle relaxants, may be necessary to keep the patient alive. The patient should be treated in an institution where necessary teamwork and technology are available.
