Developing randomised e-quizzes for flexible assessment: Maths support for Biochemistry and Chemistry

To support our students in practicing calculations as they transition into higher education, we are developing banks of randomised on-line questions. Students can access an unlimited number of quizzes and receive immediate feedback on their progress, thereby incentivising learner engagement. Randomised quizzes are developed with the programming language php for import into Moodle and are created in an accessible format to be used with the Moodle plug-in, MathJax. We trained a small group of undergraduate biochemists and chemists in this method and allowed them to explore question types relevant to their discipline and develop their expertise according to their interests.
