Generation of the Ultracold Muonic Hydrogen Flux

2001
We present the study of μp atom scattering in solid hydrogen. Anomalously large emission of Epμ≤1.9 meV μp's from a solid H2 layer was observed for the first time. This three times greater μp atom yield is due to non-elastic phonon scattering. As a result, it becomes possible to generate an ultracold flux of μp atoms. The recent calculations of the total and differential cross sections agree with all experimental results of μp atom scattering in solid H2.
