Design aspects and effectiveness of support systems in different mining conditions

1984
The basis for support design is; firstly, derivation of the in-situ rock mass strength from the geomechanics rock mass classification; secondly, application of the necessary adjustments to armic at the design rock mass strength; and thirdly, relation of these data to the mining-induced stresses. A series of tables and charts has been developed to provide guidelines for the design of the support. The performance of support systems and problems in support provision are discussed. The need for proper installation and an understanding by construction crews of the support principles is emphasized. 9 references.
