Effect of Sand-Grain Size on Perforator Performance

1998
Rock compressive strength is key in determining the depth of penetration for shaped-charge perforators. Size, distribution, and hardness of the composite sand grain of the rock also are important parameters in determining penetration. Sand-grain size has an effect that has not been recognized previously as important, but recent experiments show that penetration depth can be affected significantly by sand-grain size.
