STUDIES ON TICK INFESTATION OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS IN NANKING

1969
Abstract : From April 1956 to December 1957, 11 kinds of domestic animals in Nanking were examined for the infestation of ticks. With the exception of rabbits, all of the others were found to be infected. The rate of infection was highest among cows and sheep, being over 50%, while that of buffaloes and goats ranked the next. Five species belongint to 4 genera of ticks were found, namely, Haemaphysalis bispinosa, H. campanulata var. hoepplinna, Rhippicephalus haemaphysaloides var. haemaphysaloides, Ixodes persulcatus, and Boophilus caudatus. Among these, H. bispinosa and R. h. var. haemaphysaloides were most common. The method of rearing of H. bispinosa and R. h. var. haemaphysaloides in the laboratory was described. (Author)
