Changes in the prostate after the cryoapplication in dogs.

1994
: The research aimed at defining local changes in the healthy prostatic gland after the procedure of cryodestruction. In 15 dogs the gland was frozen unifocally in the double cycle from the outside using the flat applicator. At different times over the period of 6 months after the cryodestruction procedure particular dogs were subjected to surgery in order to determine macro- and microscopic changes. Coagulative necrosis with the subsequent formation of the connective tissue scar was observed in the frozen tissues. Two weeks after the cryosurgery regenerative processes of the normal prostatic gland were noted. From the tenth day until 6 months after the procedure the size of the gland in the investigated dogs decreased by about 45%. The appearance of cavities in the lobes of the gland may, be a complication after the overfreezing of the urethra.
