Application of Flipped classroom teaching method in dental anatomy teaching

Objective To evaluate the Flipped classroom applied in dental anatomy as well as the cultivation of students’ ability. Methods Four classes of stomatological grade 2015, Clinical Medical College of Tianjin Medical University were selected, of which two applied Flipped classroom and the other two applied traditional teaching model. The effect of Flipped classroom was evaluated through the comparative analysis of examination scores and students’ subjective evaluation. Results The students’ closed-book examination and wax teeth carving performance were significantly improved by Flipped classroom(Closed-book examination t=2.370, P=0.018; wax teeth carving performance Z=2.064, P=0.039). Flipped classroom is advantageous for the cultivation of learning interest, learning efficiency and self-learning ability, as well as students’ ability of thinking, communication and teamwork. Conclusions Flipped classroom is not only beneficial for mastering the knowledge and skills of dental anatomy, but also the cultivation of students’ comprehensive ability.
