Space Human Factors and Operator Interfaces

Human factors, also known as human factors engineering or ergonomics, is the branch of engineering that deals with understanding and improving how humans and mechanical, electronic, and software systems interact. Areas of space exploration in which human factors engineering is important include design of human/machine interfaces, including flight control stations and robotic operator interfaces; design of astronaut tools and spacesuits; design and evaluation of operator training regimens; and design and evaluation of human/robotic teams, including team member roles, interactions, and capabilities.
