The growth charts of height, weight and body mass index for skeletal age in adolescent

2009
Objective The growth charts of height, weight and body mass index(BMI) based on skeletal age were prepared for evaluating adolescent growth and development in age estimation for adolescent. Methods 16570 cases(8282 boys,8288 girls)of normal urban Han children and adolescent aged 3~19 years were selected from five cities in China in 2005.The skeletal age of hand and wrist were assessed by RUS-CHN method, and the centiles of height, weight and body mass index in the skeletal age groups were estimated by Box-Cox power exponential distribution models. Results The degrees of freedom of parameter curves of μ,σ,ν and τ from BCPE distribution for height, weight and BMI were selected according as the smallest AIC and GAIC(3),and the differences between percents of cases below the centile curves and the expected values were 0.01%~1.21%.Conclusions The selected BCPE distribution models for height, weight and BMI in the skeletal age groups are consistent with distributions of practical data. The growth charts can be used to evaluate growth and development of adolescent in age estimation.
