Extent of Adoption and Constraint Analysis of Potato Production Technologies in Western Uttar Pradesh

2019
The present study was undertaken to study the adoption patterns and constraints in adoption of potato production technologies in Agra and Kannauj districts of Uttar Pradesh. The study revealed that CPRI varieties like Kufri Bahar, Kufri Pukhraj, etc. covered larger area and number of farmers in Agra and Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh. Majority of farmers adopted improved technologies like use of optimum seed rate, use of nitrogenous and potash fertilizers, second dose of nitrogenous fertilizers and late blight management. However, there were low extent of adoption in use of certified quality potato seeds, seed preparation before planting, use of recommended dose of phosphatic fertilizers and weed management. The major constraints faced by potato growers in adoption of improved potato technologies in the study areas were high cost of cultivation, higher involvement of middlemen, lack of knowledge about scientific cultivation, lack and high cost of good quality seed, inadequate knowledge about seed plot technique, shortage of labour for post harvest operations, unavailability of short duration processing and delayed payment by the traders.
