Static electricity in hydrocarbon liquids and fuels

Abstract A review is presented on the status of research on the generation and dissipation of electrostatic charge by hydrocarbon liquids and fuels, with emphasis on the period 1973–1980. Both metallic and non-metallic fuel handling systems are covered, including the special problems encountered in aircraft fuel tanks filled with polyurethane foam. The review stresses recent advances and presents opportunities for future research in some neglected, but nonetheless fundamental areas affecting the charge generation process.
