Organic contaminant stable isotope geochemistry, and application to contaminant characterization and remediation

Stable isotope analysis has three possible applications to contaminant characterization and remediation: (1) forensic geochemistry, as a technique to identify contaminant source; (2) subsurface processes, where changes in isotope composition can be related to processes affecting contaminant concentration; and (3) isotope-labeled studies, where isotope-labeled compounds are used as contaminant tracers.
