The paper shows the problems, which modern Russian rice breeding face, and presents the main indices of rice yield quality. Domestic production requires as an introduction of new modern technologies and protection of the state. In the long term increase in rice production against the background of import decreasing may be achieved through introduction of new varieties and variety specific cultivation technologies, timely variety changing, separate harvesting and grain processing, competent pricing.
