Theoretical Analysis of Microwave Breakdown for Microscale Gaps

Plasma limiters and protection shields are vital to protect electronic systems from high power microwave and electromagnetic pulse attacks. While conventional systems protect against such attacks using semiconductor elements, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), liquid crystals, and ferromagnetic devices for tuning, these devices cannot handle high power. Cold-plasma based devices offer a better solution for protection/limiting needs in the high-power regime given their self-sustainability and reconfigurability.
