Electrical properties of pyrolytic polyoxadiazole

1987
Abstract Pyrolytic poly( p -phenylene-1,3,4-oxadiazole) exhibits high electrical conductivity at room temperature and has recently been converted to high-quality graphite when heat-treated above 2800°C. From the measurement of the temperature dependence of electrical conductivity, we show that the conduction occurs via two channels: one is a channel described by a three-dimensional variable-range hopping and another is a metallic one. And this metallic channel is discussed in relation to the development of a two-dimensional graphite structure. For the POD film heat-treated at 3000°C, electrical conductivity was (1.4–1.8) × 10 4 S/cm and mean carrier mobility determined from magnetoresistance was 7500 cm 2 /Vsec.
