The Current State of the Study and Application of Personalized Medicine for Chronic Diseases in the Genomic Era

The progress and results of Human Genome Project let the idea of personalized medicine become possible. In this article, we reviewed the background of personalized medicine, its current use and drawbacks. Although big progress had been made, it was far from the time to conduct personalized prevention to chronic disease. The comprehensive epidemiological studies on both genetic and environmental factors, as well as the better study design, will accumulate more evidence to support the development of personalized medicine and its application in the near future.
