Lightning Statistics Observed on Wind Turbines in Lightning-Susceptible Areas during Winter

2019
Along the coast of the Sea of Japan, powerful lightning strikes during the winter are attracted to tall structures, often causing damage to wind turbines. A lightning detection device is set up on wind turbines during the winter in regions that are susceptible to lightning for the purpose of preventing the damage from spreading when the wind turbine is struck by lightning. In this study, the lightning data observed by the devices were accumulated, and the results of the investigation are reported based on the regional characteristics of lightning.
