Syndromes of self poisoning

A principal components analysis was applied to 29 features in 80 patients consecutively admitted to 2 English general hospitals for acts of deliberate self poisoning. A varimax solution suggested that the case material could usefully be defined in terms of 4 or 5 independent syndrome categories as follows:−
