Variations in the Timing of Adolescent Growth Spurt

2017
It is not uncommon to discover startling variations in the timing of pubertal growth spurt in any group of children. Orthodontic treatment involving regulation of facial growth and alteration of three dimensional jaw relationships, either by dentofacial orthopedics or orthognathic surgery, is dependent on the true diagnosis of the timing of pubertal growth spurt. This text provides an evidence based account of all the possible factors which may affect the timing of adolescent growth spurt. In addition, the association between different sagittal and vertical facial patterns and the variations in the timing of adolescent growth spurt has also been presented in the light of recent studies and new observations. This writing is likely to significantly improve the diagnostic abilities of keen clinicians trying to achieve the best results for their patients.
