The influence of stem positioning on bone strains in cementless total hip replacements
2011
Bone stress fields can be now automatically generated under various loading conditions using CT-based Finite Element (FE) Analysis [1]. Accounting for the influence of implant positioning on bone strains, however, requires re-implanting the femur and re-simulating the corresponding FE models. This work combines Simpleware mesh refinement tool with a mesh morphing technique to automatically: (a) generate these models and (b) compute bone Von Mises total mechanical strains as the implant position varies.
