Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) on silver surfaces activated by a simple chemical treatment

A simple method for preparing a SERS-active silver surface is presented. It is based on the action of a chemical-etching solution containing the ionic or molecular species to be adsorbed. SERS spectra of halide ions and pyridine are discussed.
