Proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations.

2000
Fracture dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal joint can be highly problematic injuries, particularly in the competitive athlete. Dorsal fracture dislocations are common, and volar fracture dislocations are rare. Numerous methods of treatment have been recommended for unstable injuries, but none offer entirely predictable results. The athlete is rendered unable to compete during the acute phase of treatment and returning to sports usually requires a minimum of 6 weeks.
