Clinical application of titanium miniplates for treatment of phalangeal fractures

Objective To evaluate the clinical results of treating phalangeal fractures by titanium miniplates fixation.Methods From July 2009 to July 2010,65 cases of phalangeal fractures were treated with titanium miniplates,among which there were 40 cases of proximal phalangeal fractures and 25 middle phalangeal fractures.The clinical results were assessed by the standard of TAM scales.Results All patients were followup for 6 to 12 months,with an average of 8 months.According to TAM scales,the results were excellent in 50cases,good in 10 cases and fair in 5 cases,with an excellent and good rate of 92.3%.All the fractures healed uneventfully.There were no obvious complications such as wound infection,malunion or nonunion,plate extrusion,or screw loosening. Conclusion Titanium miniplate fixation is a reliable alternative to treat phalangeal fractures with no obvious complicatiom. Key words: Fractures,bone;  Finger phalanges;  Fracture fixation,internal
