Implanted fiducial markers are no longer needed for prostate cancer radiotherapy

For many decades, it has been common practice to implant fiducial markers within the prostate of patients undergoing radiotherapy in order to enhance the visualization of the target before, during, and after treatment. Some argue that, with the widespread use of cone-beam CT, prostate visualization without the use of fiducial markers is now possible, and such markers are no longer needed.
