CT and MRI Appearances of Malignant Melanoma in Central Nervous System

2011
Objective To discuss the CT and MRI manifestations of malignant melanoma in central nervous system.Materials and Methods CT and MRI manifestations and clinical information of 10 cases of malignant melanoma confirmed historically were retrospectively analyzed.Four patients received CT plain scanning,1 patient received plain and contrast CT sanning,8 patients received plain and contrast MR scanning. Results There were 9 cases in brain and 1 case in spinal canal.Five lesions were demonstrated high density on plain CT and 1 was enhanced on contrast CT scanning.Eight lesions were hyper-intense on T1-weighted imaging and hypo-intense on T2-weighted imaging. The tumors showed remarkable enhancement after the administration of contrast in 6 cases, mild enhanced in 1 case, and rim enhanced in 1 case. Conclusion According to the special imaging features of CT and MRI,especially the characteristic signal on MRI,malignant melanoma could be diagnosed definitely.
