Sealed-type secondary battery

An objective of the present invention is, even if gas is generated within a sealed-type secondary battery, to safely discharge the gas outside the battery. This sealed-type secondary battery has, housed within a battery case (5), an electrode group (4) wherein positive electrode plates (1) and negative electrode plates (2) are either wound or layered, with separators (3) interposed therebetween. The sealed-type secondary battery comprises: an insulator plate (8) which is positioned upon the ends of the electrode group (4) in an aperture part side of the battery case (5); and a sealing body (10) which seals the aperture part of the battery case (5), further comprising a cap (14). A first aperture part (14a) and a second aperture part (8a) are formed respectively upon the cap (14) and the insulator plate (8). With S1 designating the area of the first aperture part (14a) and S2 designating the area of the second aperture part (8a), S1 and S2 satisfy the relation 1.2 * S1 + 50mm2
