THE EFFECT OF MIX DESIGN TECHNOLOGY ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS

2002
Permanent deformation of asphalt pavements has been the focus of mix design systems since the early part of the 20th century. Today, one of the main objectives of mix design remains the prevention of rutting. Several main types of mix design are in use; each method approaches the problem of rutting using a different set of criteria that includes type and effort of compaction and selection of volumetric criteria and asphalt content. This paper provides an overview of the mix design methods and a summary of the independently performed designs.
