Influence of calcining temperature on photoluminescence and thermal quenching in europium-doped Y2SiO5 using the MOD process

2002
Abstract The crystalline Eu 0.25 Y 1.75 SiO 5 (EYSO) fine powders were prepared using metallorganic decomposition process, in which the pure X 1 - and X 2 -Y 2 SiO 5 phases were obtained by calcining at temperatures from 850°C to 1600°C. The influence of calcining temperature on photoluminescence (PL) and thermal quenching were systematically investigated from room temperature to 573 K for the first time. As a consequence, the X 2 -EYSO was higher in light emission intensities than the X 1 -EYSO, but the X 1 -EYSO possessed better temperature dependence of PL. The phase structure had a significant effect on the light emission intensity and energy as well as its temperature characteristics in the EYSO.
