Entre arqueólogos, diplomáticos, políticos y gramáticos. Positivismo y naturalismo en la filología argentina del siglo XIX

2019
This article seeks to make an interpretation of the way in which certain figures from the Argentine intellectual field during the second half of the nineteenth century  —Vicente Fidel Lopez, Alberto del Solar, Samuel Alejandro Lafone Quevedo y Juan Jose Garcia Velloso —, all coming from different spheres of knowledge, assimilated the basic postulates of historical-comparative philology. Either to participate in the discussion about the national language, or to establish affiliations from which to build the identity of Latin American nations, the four authors heterogeneously appropriated the hegemonic linguistics of their time. It is found that this linguistic discipline  —marked by Positivism and Naturalism, within the boom of the Schleicherian paradigm — became their main epistemological foundation, that is, the methodological tool they used to grant scientific status to their arguments.
