NUCLEAR STRUCTURE INFORMATION FROM HIGH-ENERGY (p,2p) EXPERIMENTS.

Abstract A re-analysis of the data on the reaction 40 Ca(p, 2p) 39 K at 460 MeV shows that information can be obtained regarding the shapes and widths of the peaks in the energy spectrum for the knock-out of a 1 d 5 2 , 2 s and 1 d 3 2 proton. The separation of the peaks is in good agreement with other evidence, and the differential cross section for the 1 d 3 2 knock-out is in reasonable agreement with a calculation based on single-particle wave functions obtained from electron scattering.
