CMOS Implementation of Wide Frequency Bandwidth Resonator's Q-Factor Measurement Circuit

2019
In this paper, based on time-domain quality factor (Q-factor) measurement principle, we have proposed an ASIC design for Q-factor measurement. Thanks to the circuit configurable property, the OTA's static imperfection, i.e. offset, can be cancelled automatically suppressing a major error source. In addition, three other new schemes have been incorporated. As a result, not only the circuit operation frequency has been increased but also the Q-factor measurement can cover a wider frequency bandwidth from 100kHz to 1.5MHz with power consumption kept almost constant. Moreover not only the measurement accuracy is still kept below 0.2% but the circuit power consumption has been reduced by 7.5% as well. The proposed circuit has been designed, implemented and simulated in a CMOS 0.35µm technology. The simulation results have confirmed enlarged frequency bandwidth, high accuracy measurement and also the power reduction.
