CHILAIDITI SYNDROME – A REVIEW OF SEVEN CASES

2014
Hepatodiaphragmatic interposition of small or large intestine is known as Chilaiditi syndrome. This syndrome is a rare phenomenon and diagnosed incidentally. It is usually asymptomatic but may present with symptoms ranging from mild abdominal pain nausea, vomiting to acute intestinal obstruction. It is often misdiagnosed as pneumoperitoneum due to hollow viscous perforation. Treatment is mainly conservative and rarely surgery is required for complications, e.g. obstruction, etc. Awareness of this condition is paramount to the discrimination of a potential surgical emergency.
