On Multi-phase Theory of Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Exercise and Its Mechanism in Physiology

2009
Oxygen uptake kinetics reflects the oxygen dynamic change from the onset to the stabilization in exercise.Various kinetic characteristics are shown in different intensity of exercise. The time constant in the second phase and the slow component of oxygen uptake kinetics appeared in exercise of great intensity are possibly related to lactic accumulation, motor unit recruitment, the utilization of CP and the capability of transporting oxygen and utilizing oxygen. This study of multi-phase characters in oxygen uptake kinetics is carried out in combination with a mathematical model and has offered a new method for a further understanding of the change and adaptation in physiological mechanism in exercise and the limits of sports performance.
