ENVIRONMENTAL INDICATORS TO STUDY RIVERBANK EROSION IN THE SÃO

In order to reach the sustainable development, the proposed actions by Agenda 21 emphasize the construction of environmental indicators, by the evaluation and monitoring of some strategic actions. The objective of this work was to build an environmental indicators matrix related to bank erosion and its consequences at the right margin of Low Sao Francisco River. The methodology proposed by OCDE (Organization to cooperation and Economic Development), a Pression-State-ImpactEffect-Response (PEI/ER) indicators model was tested. The quantification of the erosion process through thirty environmental indicators is important in order to give some support to the development of policies and actions, toward the mitigation of negatives effects of the environmental degradation in that place.
