Multi-resonant Non-Inverting Buck-Boost Converter

2019
A DC-DC converter having buck-boost characteristics is proposed in this paper. The converter operation is based on the two resonators switched in between input and output ports having different characteristics frequencies. The resonant operation not only helps transfer energy but also to reduce losses using zero-current operation. The converter’s multimode operation is explained under two modes identified using the output voltage regulation. In the unregulated mode, there is fixed voltage gain and zero-current at the turn-on and -off instances of all semiconductor devices. However, in the regulated mode, a set of semiconductor devices have hard turn-off. The converter operation in both modes is analyzed and validated using simulation results. Furthermore, the effects of parasitic elements of active and passive devices on the expected output are analyzed and verified using experimental results.
