2-A-E-11. Waveform of the affected upper extremity with the F-wave testing condition in patients with cerebrovascular diseases may be H-reflex

2015
Here, we report that the waveforms for F-wave and H-reflex of an affected arm may be similar in patients with cerebrovascular disease (CVD). In this study, we investigated the characteristic appearance pattern of H-reflex or F-wave with gradually increasing stimulus intensity and the waveform with F-wave testing conditions. We examined H-reflex and F-wave of the affected thenar muscles with increased stimulus intensity during muscle relaxation in 7 patients (2 males and 5 females) with hemiparesis caused by CVD. Further, the waveform was recorded after stimulation with 1.2 times intensity to evoke the maximal M wave as the F-wave testing condition. Tonus of the affected thenar muscles was hypertonus in all 7 patients. Only H-reflex, but not F-wave, was evoked with gradually increasing stimulus intensity in severe hypertonus of affected thenar muscles. In cases with appearance of F-wave with gradually increasing stimulus intensity, each waveform with the F-wave testing condition was very similar to H-reflex. Thus, the waveform of the affected upper extremity with the F-wave testing condition in patients with CVD may be H-reflex.
