Estudo comparativo da evolução nutricional de pacientes candidatos à cirurgia bariátrica assistidos pelo Sistema Único de Saúde e pela Rede Suplementar de Saúde Comparative study of the nutritional evolution of patients/candidates for bariatric surgery attended by the Unified Health System and the Supplemental Health Network

2014
Abstract A cross-sectional comparative study wasconducted on the nutritional evolution of severe-ly obese patients who are candidates for bariatricsurgery attended by the Unified Health System(SUS) and the Supplemental Health Network(RS). The average preoperative follow-up periodwas 14.3 ± 7.7 months in the SUS and 2.4 ± 1.7months in the RS. There was a predominance offemales among patients attended by the SUS(80.6%) and by the RS (75.7%). A significantreduction in weight, BMI and waist circumfe-rence (WC) and total cholesterol values of pati-ents of both health networks was observed. Pati-ents attended by the SUS showed no significantdecrease in LDL, Triglycerides and Fasting Glyce-mia, while patients assisted by the RS showed asignificant reduction of these values. The greaterweight loss among SUS patients is explained bythe fact that they had been monitored for a longerperiod. The insignificant reduction of most bio-chemical indicators of SUS patients can be justi-fied by the fact that they had a more advanceddegree of obesity.
