Stein–Leventhal Syndrome in a 12–Year–Old Girl

1974
A girl at age 12 years, 8 months had virilization due to Stein-Leventhal syndrome. Studies of the patient's adrenal and ovarian androgen production employing adrenocorticotrophic hormone stimulation, dexamethasone suppression, and human chorionic gonadotrophin stimulation indicated that her ovaries were the major source of excess testosterone. The diagnosis of polycystic ovaries was confirmed at surgery.
