Investigation of moth-eye antireflection coatings for photovoltaic cover glass using fdtd modeling method

2014
The need for photovoltaic coverglass coatings that are both broadband antireflective and omni-directional has led to the development of biomimetic moth-eye type graded index of refraction surfaces. In this study, we evaluate generic nanostructured coatings derived using both top-down and bottom-up approaches. It is found that top-down coatings are able to achieve an average reflectance of 0.10%, while bottom-up approaches only achieve an average reflectance of 0.7%. However, the decreased reflectance may not be compelling enough to justify the cost-intensive processing in top-down approaches.
