This article presents a study for the development of a software prototype to support the systematization of nursing care. Nurses have a key role in patient care and the importance of technological resources for their work cannot remain in the background as they can help improve their performance, perform tasks, and improve quality of care to patients. Methods: The present study was carried out at the Clemente de Faria University Hospital, which is a potential user of the system under development. Data was collected from the hospital's nurses through interviews and usability testing. We managed to construct a software prototype used in the usability tests. Results: Another result of the study was its good acceptance by the users. Conclusion: The study showed the importance of applying methods and techniques of software engineering and usability and involving users in the entire development process for the development of a quality software product of quality with good acceptance of end-users.
