Inductive Link: Practical Aspects

In this chapter we discuss practical aspects of inductive link design. In Sect. 3.1, key factors in coil design are presented, including different shapes and wire types that can be used to build them. Next, in Sect. 3.1.1, by way of example, we provide analytic expressions to estimate the lumped model of a coil in the case of a square-shaped printed spiral coil. Then, the influence of surrounding foreign electrical conductors and ferrites on the coil model is addressed in Sects. 3.2.1 and 3.2.2, respectively. Finally, safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) considerations are discussed in Sect. 3.3.
