SummaryL ONG - TERM RESULTS OF PERCUTANEOUS MITRALVALVULOPLASTY IN PATIENTS factor predisponente de complicaciones y de OVER 50 YEARS OLD Advanced age has been identified as a predic-tor factor for complications and poor outcome atPercutaneous Mitral Valvulotomy (PMV) withballoon, nevertheless this has been associatedto the inadequate valvular anatomy, wherebythe contribution of each factor needs to be de-terminate. Objective: Describe the immediateand final outcome of PMV with Inoue balloon inpatients over 50 years old and associate com-plications with age and Wilkins score. Materialand methods: A retrospective and analytic studywas performed with a data base of 430 patients. We included all the patients proceeding fromthe Centro Medico Nacional Siglo XXI Cardiol-ogy Hospital. From January 1996 to December2005. Results: We selected 137 patients withrheumatic mitral stenosis. We found a MitralValvular Area (MVA) before the PMV proceed-ing of 1.01 cm 2 + 0.18 and 1.99 cm + 0.30 postPMV (P < 0.001), with pre procedure transmitralgradient of 14.3 + 3.18 mm Hg and of 4.3 + 2.6mm Hg post (P < 0.001). In 128 (93%) the imme-diate proceeding was considered successful. The Wilkins score was 8.41 + 1.31.
