Spectra of xenon molecular ions in rare gas matrices

Abstract Intrinsic molecular centers Xe 2 + in solid Xe were produced by deposition of ion-containing gas on a cooled substrate. Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) from the samples was studied in the range of transitions between the ground state of ionic centers and the lower excited states related to the 2 P 1/2, 2 P 3/2 limits of Xe ions. The influence of the shallow and deep electron traps was examined and conditions of the stability of ionic centers were discussed. Different trapping sites in the lattice were found.
